Humans Of Hip Hop – Dec 3 – Hart House Library – 7 Hart House Circle, Toronto

Humanz Of Hip Hop Toronto

1:00PM – 3:00PM

Humanz of Hip Hop is a specially curated Human Library that brings to light the relationship between hip hop and the world we live in. Whether you have been into hip hop since the 70s or have developed a more recent liking for it through art, clothing, dance or movies, hip hop has stormed onto the scene and has never looked back.

Humanz of Hip Hop is your opportunity to hear a unique hip hop inspired story or an inspirational story by someone from the hip hop community. Each participant in our human library can be checked out, like a book, for 25 minutes of one-on-one time. Hear a story, share an insight and gain perspective.

Multi-generational, multi-racial and multi-cultural, it’s one nation under hip hop. Flip the script with our “human books” as they share the personal stories that speak to and shape their unique social identities. Ultimately, participating as a “reader,” you will leave with an unforgettable memory, a remarkable conversation and a belief in the transformative power of stories.

Backstage With Theo Skudra – Dec 5 – Free Space – 68 Claremont Street, Toronto

Backstage with Theo Skudra

6:30PM – 10:30PM

We all know that moment when the stage lights dim and the audience anticipation is palpable. What most don’t see is what happens behind the scenes. The tireless prep, unforgiving schedule, creative fatigue, endless rehearsals, nonstop jet lag, and finally: the triumph of when it all comes together. For the past 7 years Theo Skudra has been singularly documenting these moments for one of the world’s biggest artists, Drake.

Theo is the creative mind behind some of Drake’s most iconic imagesand director of his most recent videos (Money In the Grave & Nonstop), both showcasing his signature monochromatic style. Creativity runs in the family; both his father and grandfather were also photographers. He pulls influence from his love of cinema and had been experimenting with short films and writing long before he first met Drake.

Theo Skudra will be dropping by the Canon Creator Lab for a moderated discussion and audience Q&A as well as a first-ever gallery of his work, both giving us a backstage look at some unforgettable moments from his impressive career.

Cakes Da Killa

The New Jersey Rapper who spits rapid-fire, ruthlessly witty tongue twisters over pulse-racing, dance-inspired beats, Cakes da Killa earned a loyal international following, aligned him with Red Bull Music Academy and Afropunk, and elevated the 28-year old artist among the elite of New York City’s Underground sound.

As early as 2011, Cakes began releasing mixtapes that would lead to world tours and major campaigns helping fuel the dialogue around LGBTQ+ acceptance in urban music. He has since appeared in various online and print publications, Hot 97, Beats 1 Radio, VH1s Love & Hip Hop: Out in Hip Hop special and the Netflix original series Rhythm + Flow.
