Pharoahe Monch has released a new track and accompanying video for “Yayo”. If you’ve seen the movie Scarface, you are more than familiar with the term yayo referring to cocaine. Now this is not a track glorifying the drug, but a masterful display of wordplay with cocaine as the subject matter.
Pharoahe goes into detail on the production, it’s destructive qualities, it’s effects on people, society and more.
Production came from Lee Stone who uses bursting drums and chopped up vocal samples to create the beat. DJ Boogie Blind lays out some amazing scratches as well.
The video was directed and edited by Milton Walker IV who splices various movie clips with yayo as the focal point.
Pharoahe Monch proves that his lyrical skill is getting better with time.
