Studio Sounds Sunday: The Making Of A$AP Ferg’s “Plain Jane” With Kirk Knight

Kirk Knight Deconstructed

Producer and emcee Kirk Knight is well know for his beats and his rhymes. He took some time with Genius and explained how he created the beat for A$AP Ferg’s track “Plain Jane”. He speaks about the importance of layering sounds, specifically drums. Creativity is on display as the skillful producer recorded some live rhythmic train track sounds on his phone and added it to the beat.

The Pro Era member tells a story about being at RZA’s house and he said that he made his first million without knowing how to play a key. Kirk explains that this moved him away from the fear of not being trained musically. Many producers, including myself can relate to this.

Shout out to Genius for putting this together.
